So how does it feel to be writing about your passion? Something that you’ve always loved. Something that brings you so much joy and pleasure. Something that keeps you up late at night thinking about ways to get better and better. Fun, isn’t it?
Hell yeah it is! BUT… we’re also here to make money, right? We can’t forget about that. Sometime we get so carried away having fun with our passion that we forget that we could also be making some great money by DOING our passion.
If fact, some people make 100% of their income directly from their passion. Having the ability to make $100 bucks about writing about something you already love doing is a no-brainer.
So with that in mind, we have to constantly be aware of writing our articles in a way that’ll 1.) be most helpful, amusing, and educational to our readers and 2.) that’ll grab the most attention and get as many people as possible to read the article.
The more people we have reading our articles —not just anyone, but people truly interested in our material—the more money we’ll make from each article over time (if the article is of high value, which we’ll discuss in a bit).
How to Write Articles that Grab the Reader’s Attention
It’s All About the Title
If your passion is “Learning Languages” which title do you think will grab the most attention from readers searching articles on google?
- Cool Ways to Learn a New Language
- Learning a New Language Got Me Laid in Paris!
If you guessed #1, you went with the safe title which may get some good traffic over time if you’re lucky, but it falls short is grabbing immediate attention.
If you went with #2, BINGO!, you got it! This title has a lot of psychological triggers built into it. Let’s break it down:
“Learning a New Language” will pique the interest of any language learner seeking to find some new information on the web, but so what… there’s already tons of sites with titles such as “Learning a New Language.” There’s nothing too special there.
But then we have “Got Me Laid.” This wording has a tone of mystery that begs the questions “How did you get laid?” “Why did learning a new language get you laid? “Why did you get laid in Paris.” “Was there something special that your did?” Etc..
Now the combination of the two is where the punch is: “Learning a New Language” plus “Got Me Laid,” brings together an interest for learning a new language and having sex. It’s very intriguing. Thought provoking. And it’s not a common title that’s going to get drowned in the sea of “safe” titles such as “Interesting Way to Learn a Language” or “See My New Way of Learning a Language.” Boorrriinnggg…
Perhaps the article isn’t even about having sex. Perhaps it’s about the time you were in Paris and you happened to speak a little bit of French which helped you get a good deal at a hostel where you “laid” down and slept like a baby that night.
Now the reader doesn’t know that, right? The reader obviously has some interest in learning a new language, now it’s your job to push him over the top (ethically, of course) to actually read your article. And it can’t just be about “learning a new language.” No sir. You have to throw something else in there to swish around his subconscious.
You have to make him say “Hmm… this is unusual…let me further investigate this.” And the only way to do that is to be brave, sexy, and downright outrageous with your article titles.
Creativity is Essential With Your Titles
Now you may say that “this is misleading” or “wrong.” But I’d say absolutely not. This is marketing. Every product that you have bought and will buy, engaged you in the same way for you to purchase their products–the same products that you now love and use daily.
Same goes for your content. You can have the best article on “Learning a New Language” in the world, but if it’s not packaged and marketed correctly, nobody’s going to read it buddy! It’s just get bogged down, bloated, stale, and eventually sinks to the depth of the Internet Ocean where it’ll remain forever. Hours spent wasted for absolutely nothing! You don’t want that, do you?
I don’t think so. So this is where some creativity enters into the equation. If you want to make money online, you’ll have to be clever (or clever enough). You’ll have to have some sort of “hook” for each article that’ll entice the reader to nibble (notice), then devour your article by clicking on it.
I once published an article on one of my health blogs about the dangers of drinking cow’s milk. The article was titled something like “Cow’s Milk is A White Poison.” The article had plenty of scientific evidence to support my claim of it being a poison (something that can bring harm to your body); how people have died from related illnesses from consuming dairy; and plenty of statistics to support my claim.
Now I could’ve titled it “Some Dangers of Drinking Milk” but that title wouldn’t “pop!” like the one with “poison” in it. That one word “poison” made this article a huge success for me. Within a few hours of the article being published and promoted, it made me over $40.00. Yes, that’s right… $40 bucks from one article in just a few hours. Do you see the potential here? And month that same article, alone, makes me upwards of $20.00+.
Your articles need to be on FIRE! They need to fly off the page!
You need to follow ALL 4 Principles of Creating A Successful Blog Article
- Writing about something you love and can write passionately about.
- Coming up with a clever, polemical, controversial, sexy, and fiery title to Instantly Grab Attention (IGB).
- Have the right ads / affiliates / banners in place to make money from the article.
- And properly promote the article on the Web.
A principle is something that has been tried, tested, and continues to work. If you follow this principle above, combined with your own unique insight into your passion, then you’re going to prepare yourself to make a lot of money online.
You’re going to meet your $100 a month mark if you do this with each and every article. And if you’re really hungry, you’re going to make several hundred dollars a month—or more—if you can constantly create such articles that correctly adhere to all 4 principles.
TIME does NOT Equal Money / Value Equals Money
Yes, it is true that your blog is going to need a certain amount of articles to gain traction and eventually start earning you money, but don’t get confused and think that the TIME you put into creating the AMOUNT of articles is going to be the key to success here. No, not fully.
The VALUE of each article is what equals MONEY. I have one blog with over 300 articles which makes me about $500 or so a month without me doing anything. Yes, I continue to write articles for it once and a while, but if I go several months without one single update, I still make the $500 bucks a month. How?
Because from those 300 articles, there are about 15 articles that make up about 95% of the $500 bucks I make each month. What does that tell you? It means that those 15 articles have the most VALUE to my readers. Those 15 articles attract the most attention because they each have very compelling and riveting, attention grabbing titles; they each have immensely valuable information; they’ve each been marketed and promoted well enough; and now they are positioned in auto-pilot on google to continue to make me money each month.
Yes, the other 285 articles still make me money—anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars per month— but their purpose serves more to support and bring readers to my VALUE articles. You may write 20 articles and 1 out of those 20 articles makes you $50 per month.
And how did you get to that $50 a month mark? You wrote 19 decent articles and one amazing one with immense value. Imagine if you wrote 20 value articles? So, yes, in a sense TIME does matter. But TIME doesn’t equal money. Do yourself a favor and focus on VALUE articles, because in the long-run, you’ll make a lot more money for way less articles. You don’t want to have a blog with 500 articles making you $100 a month. You want a blog with 80 articles makings you $100+ per month.
Sure, this will vary from topic to topic, but if you stick to the principle, you will reach your $100 a month mark a lot easier and faster than other people focusing on the “Time equals Money” thinking. Stick with the “VALUE equals Money” with each article and you’ll be in good shape.
VALUE Always Trumps Quantity
Look at it like this. Say you needed to solve a specific problem about how to cure your kidney stones without surgery. You go to the library and can purchase 10 books for about $10 each with decent ideas on how to solve your problem.
You go home and try each “decent” idea that you read in the 10 books you paid $100 for. All of the ideas didn’t work. They were valueless. But what if someone came alone with a sheet of paper with some very VALUABLE information that was sure to cure your kidney stones without surgery.
How much would you pay for it… $20, $50, $150…? I’m betting that you’d gladly pay the $150 for the single piece of paper than pay $100 for 10 huge books of garbage. Now think of each of your articles as that one valuable piece of paper and you’ll not only educate a lot of people about your passion, but also make a ton of money in the process.
Next Chapter we’ll discuss how to optimize your articles to best position them in the search engines. The more people that are sincerely interested in your passion that you can attract to your blog, the more money you’ll eventually make when we add advertisements to your blog (we’ll cover that in a few chapters…).
Hang in there, you’re setting yourself up for greatness! Now go write an insanely VALUABLE article with a super-attractive-attention-getting title.
