I could not be happier that Barack Obama is our next President. He has galvanized the nation, he has brought about the needed sense of change that this country so desires, and he has placed the issues of our environment at the forefront of his administration.
Instead of war, he talks peace, instead of more government he talks less, and instead of waste he talks sustainability. Not just sustainability for energy production, but a sustainability that creates jobs due to all types of environmental programs.
With his blessing, the automobile bailout funds were passed, not to maintain the old ways, but as a promise for the automakers to go down new paths. Those funds will help Chevy complete the much needed engine plant for the revolutionary Volt electrical car, the first electric car that will appeal to the masses.
He is going to lead the way with environmental policies like Cap and Trade—a greenhouse gas emissions allowance system, Clean Energy Initiatives–$150 billion dollars to be pumped into the clean tech and renewable energy sector, Smart Grid—revamping the current electrical grid which will improve efficiency and reliability, plus an incredible array of other sustainable initiatives, tax credits, grants, to both explore and implement the most energy efficient practices across the board. As a benefit from all of this green technology, people will be needed to build it, put it in place and maintain it, creating an untold amount of new jobs.
The sad thing about all of this is that, most of this technology existed 8 years ago, when the man from Crawford county took office. The difference is that, the last President was an oil man and the son of an oil man, and finding other sources of energy instead of using oil, was really not in the families, sponsors, political backers, best financial interests. That meant, the good old days for the past economy was on borrowed time.
Spending billions of dollars a week on a war in a foreign country, which has been proven there was no real reason to go there in the first place, should have had those same billions invested in our own sustainable economy. Had that happened, had new jobs been created in the high tech and sustainable energy field, it is safe to say that our economy would have been booming!
We as Americans, are hungry for new technology. It is predicted for solar panels alone, there will be a 20 fold rise in sales by 2013. And that is just with the current governments incentives, which are mostly state generated—California leading the way here. Now, when Obama instigates federal incentives for all 50 states, allowing homeowners to afford and install energy efficient equipment, the sustainable energy market to supply this technology, is going to be huge, and that means there is going to be more jobs for production.
The change is here, we have waited and have finally been rewarded. New ideas abound, a new economy awaits us, new practices for sustainable energy shall become the norm across the board, and we have the new President, Barack Obama, for finally taking America down the road of making the environment a priority. Thank you Mr. Obama.
