Don’t Stick to Knowledge

books on shelf

Isn’t knowledge great? It’s so fun to learn new things. Read books. Watch videos. Receive blog and newsletter updates. Study Masters and Gurus. And all that sort of stuff. But as much as it’s fun and exciting to learn new things, there’s also an equal danger accompanied by everything one learns. Danger of sticking to it.

Gaining knowledge is powerful only when it’s forgotten. Or better, when it’s let go of. When you learn something, don’t hold on to it. Don’t say “yes, now I have the answers” or “yes, now I’m smart.” When you do that, you place yourself as the slave to knowledge. You say that knowledge is this thing much greater than me. It’s something that’s making me powerful. So we get caught up in the twisted logic of: well, if knowledge is power and knowledge comes from books, then I’m just going to read as many books as I can and in time, I’ll be so smart and powerful.

No, this is a fallacy. If you aim to become knowledgeable and learned without a deep understanding and awareness that you already have all the knowledge in the world and all the answers in the world — without this protection, if you will, you will become a regurgitating, inert robotic sort of person that is filled with the nuts and bolts of life, while lacking any sort of true substance.

Don’t snuff out your divine light with knowledge. Sure, read and study. There’s no problem with that. But be aware that you are already the temple — a temple that encompasses far more knowledge than any library or Internet can contain.

About David Askaripour

I've been thinking about life, existence, and truth for as long as I could remember. When I was about 7 I remember getting a headache trying to figure out who created God...and if someone created him, then who create him? I love investigating and testing, taking nothing for truth that outside my direct experience. At the age of 12, I started my own candy selling business; it grew so large that the principal ended up closing me down (but that was just the beginning...) Through my videos and articles, I share my journey with the world.

I see “Think & Grow Rich” on your shelf. I was just having a discussion about that book tonight. I love that book. I remember reading it and feeling empowered. That was years ago and I think I lost some of that knowledge in the clutter of life. Letting go of knowledge is a good thing, but making sure you don’t leave it behind is important as well. Inspiring posts here man, keep up the awesome work.

Hey Robert, thanks for your comment. I totally agree… it’s fine to knowledge-up, but when we rely on it to determine who we are, we’re in trouble. Think and grow rich is a classic! I should add it to the Reading List on the site today! Thanks bro.
