Eating Meat Destroys You and Everything Else

Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 11:30pm by David Askaripour in Health

Why doesn’t Al Gore ever mention the stopping of meat consumption, or even cutting down meat consumption, throughout all his speechifying on global warming? Doesn’t he know that meat production and consumption leads to the destruction of the universe? Not to mention the extreme harm it does to our health. I mean, even with all the science showing the causal links between meat consumption and death (re: heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer etc…) and the actual first-hand experiences people encounter when they find themselves getting sick 10+ times a year… it’s still not enough to get people to put down their burgers. Absolutely, amazing!

This is a joke post, right?

hey “Carnivore” — no, this isn’t a joke. I wish that I was joking. I’m curious as to why you don’t use a real name instead of a “joke” name?

Are you ever going to talk about business stuff again.

I understand where you are coming from on the meat tip but you take it too far and make some pretty large claims without backing them up with any evidence.

Old people get diseases. They aren’t going to live forever even if they didn’t eat meat. Are you saying that old people would not get dementia or have heart problems if they didn’t eat meat?

I think moderation in all things is good but your posts are getting weirder and weirder.

David, I dont think your posts are getting weirder. I dont understand why people cant understand the message behind this post. I am a vegan myself, and I know where you are coming from. Meat consumption is bad - both from health perspective and from spiritual perspective. But I am sure this idea wont go well with meat lovers.

I strongly feel Business, Entrepreneurship, Spirituality and Life are all related and we cannot separate one from the other.

Aaron, its not that old people will not die, or for that matter those who dont consume meat wont have any disease at all. But the same logic applies to drug and smoke addicts as well. The point here is that the lesser meat you consume, the lesser a chance for you to attract these diseases.

Full disclosure: I enjoy meat.

There’s definitely a distinction between healthy meat eating and unhealthy meat eating that must be addressed. A fatty burger is very different - health wise - than a good piece of hormone-free beef or chicken. Furthermore, by no means does not eating meat guarantee a healthy existence (I know more than a few vegetarians who live off of pizza).

From a evolutionary standpoint, meat has been a staple for humans throughout time. There is nothing I’ve ever read about the human physiology that says we were not meant to eat meat (and I’ve looked during my vegetarian days - no conclusive evidence). But again, I’m talking about healthy meat, not processed or ultra-fatty.

The problem is not the eating of meat, it’s the method of production. Can we create cattle farms to be environmentally sustainable? Yes. Is it easy? No. But remember - earth-friendly concepts are relatively new in our society, a society which was not built upon these principles because, well, nobody had any idea that these things were so bad for us (remember, airplanes weren’t invented until after our grandparents were born - we’ve made huge advances in a very short time.). Things are changing, people are beginning to see the light, but change takes time. Understanding takes times. And the economics of sustainability have only recently even STARTED to become viable.

As they say, the youth are the future. Little do they know how right they are.

Hey Sharat,

Thank for your support of not what I said, but the message that was expressed in the video — living a vegan lifestyle can save us and can save the world. Thanks for your support of this vital cause, you are truly making a difference by they way you are thinking and living, my friend.

Hey DG,

Thanks so much for your comments. You addresses a few awesome issues.

You’re right, not eating meat doesn’t guaranty a healthy mind, spirit, body. Not at all. And, yes, even meat eaters can help make a difference by limiting themselves to organically raised meat (on farms and without the subjugation or hormones).

And, yup, there are tons of so-called vegetarians out there who have the worst diets in the world and also have negative spirits.

However, no matter who you are and what you’re about… the fact of the matter is that choosing not to consume meat — for whatever reason — and no matter how unhealthy you may be… a difference is still being made and the burden of death, hormones, and disease is lightened.

I’d agree with that “evolutionary standpoint.” But the fact of the matter is that we humans were not eating meat for millions of years and at the end of the day, we don’t need to eat meat to survive and live a healthy lifestyle. Going deeper into the physiology of it… our our digestive tracks which are extremely long — about 12x our bodies — aren’t capable of inefficiently and safely processing and digesting meat substances. The carnivore, with it’s digestive tracks that doesn’t exceed 3x it’s length, does have the capability to quickly breakdown the meat and get it out asap.

You’re looking in the right direction DG and I think that your ideals on meat, and sustainability, are helping wake people up to what’s really going. Everyone can help - meat eaters, vegans, everyone… it doesn’t matter.

Thanks!

I think Al Gore has his own mission/purpose. And, I really admire what he stands for.Sometimes I sit down and think about all of the causes that are important to me - and I know I cannot work on them all. I thank Al Gore for working on some of them. I also feel that Gore would really make some of his supporters feel isolated, and not get his point across if he also attacked what they ate. We are in the midst of a complete shift in consciousness — but it is still a step by step journey.

Rock On!

Hey G,

You know what, you’re right. Me attacking Al Gore isn’t doing anything to show how the super POSITIVE and amazing things he is doing. I have a lot of respect and admiration for his cause. And that shouldn’t go unnoticed. Thank you Al Gore, you have my support and respect! Yes, we can’t do it all and it’s going to take an army of us to spread this message from a multitude of angles. Thanks for reminding me of this, G.

Best,
Dave
