If You Read One Book This Year, Read “The Alchemist”

The Alchemist, Paulo CoelhoWOW, what a book. Just finished reading The Alchemist by the brilliant Paulo Coelho. As the title of the article states, if you’re going to read one book this year please read this one. It’s worth it.

Don’t let this little book deceive you by its size, it’s packed with inspiring, motivating, and uplifting parables that will have an everlasting positive effect on your life and your journey as an entrepreneur seeking success.

This book reminds you that each of us has a “Personal Legend” in life. A plan that, if fulfilled, will lead you to everything that you have dreamt about. Most people in life ignore their desires, wishes, and hungers to make their lives better and to reach their own definitions of success.

Most people live life settling for less because they are scared to take that extra step; they are scared to let go of all the safety nets that keep them in a state of mediocrity and sadness.

They remain in a state of “what-ifs” and “maybes.” A state that keeps them safe from venturing out to fulfill their true dreams and desires in life. Why? Simple. Because the thought of failure and being set back in life keeps them on their current path of “safety.”

The Alchemist teaches you to push forward with what you know — deep down inside — is your life’s true destiny. It teaches you to listen to your heart and not go against that little voice within that is screaming at you to “make a move!”

If people took the time to listen to “themselves” instead of adhering to what others — friends, bosses, family, and professors — want for you to do with your life, then we’d have much more happiness and success in this world.

This book is gem. Read it. Re-read it. Take notes. Study the wisdom. Share the lessons. And most of all… apply what you learn. This may very well be the best book I’ve ever read. Maybe you’ll feel that same way as well.

thanks for the pointer…i have just reserved it for checkout at my local library - i’ll pick it up shortly.

i frequent my local library often, and scan the new business book arrivals. i use to dread reading…now i embrace it very much.

i’m currently reading “Business, The Ultimate Resource” 2006. 2nd Ed.
it’s nearly 2000 pages long…lol, and i am reading it, or at the very least flipping through every single page and reading the topics that interests me.

as typical and common as “inspirational quotes” may be…it’s amazing still the profound effect it has on you when you read ‘em.

you can be down and out in the gutter one day - and while reading, all of a sudden birds starts to fly in a bright blue sky
(cheezy, i know - but it’s so true)

no problem, lawrence.

yeah, reading is an awesome experience. pre-10th grade, i hated reading. then, i read a book called “lies my teacher told me” and really got into reading hardcore. nowdays, i read a lot of entrepreneurship related books, autobiographies, business 2.0, and fiction such as “the alchemist”, riches man in babylon, and the likes…

nah man, what you say isn’t cheezy, it’s dead on. reading has changed my life and “has” pulled me out of the gutter plenty of times.

it’s not so much i don’t like fiction, but why bother - so to speak…if there’s non-fiction?

i’d rather read a generic, boring, autobiography of some ceo, than spend time reading fiction

lol, hey man…wherever you can derive inspiration from - then more power to you.
who am i to tell you what’s better than the other…

It’s a beautiful description of the personal challenges faced by those following their dreams (entrepreneurs included). You will realise what the journey entails and learn the secret of success. Been recommending this book for the past decade. It’s ficton so imbibe the underlying philosophy, not the written words!

This is a fantastic novel, and I too have been recommending this book to friends for the past few years. There’s a few books out there that had serious impacts on the way I live my life. If you like the Alchemist I would strongly recommend you check out novels by James Allen & Og Mandino. They write the kind of books you read cover to cover and then you read it again…and again.

Hey BornEntrep, Thanks for the recommendations… both authors seems to offer many inspirational books. Keep on sharing the Alchemist!
