How Are You Catering to the Need for Convenience? Part 1

Thursday, December 14, 2006 at 12:33pm by Gina Laverde in Life

I am baffled at the amount of crap that my peers buy for the sake of what they think is convenience. People who work upwards of eight hour days to earn their money will turn around and hand it over to the store for things like frozen meals, plastic food –cover bonnets, disposable razors, disposable utensils, disposable clothing — disposable crap.

Professionals who splurge on the gourmet kitchen set-up with state of the art appliances and cabinetry – people who spend thousands on their pots and pans – and then opt to cook on a sheet of disposable foil – so that they don’t have to wash dishes in their state of the art dish washer; all because they have no TIME.

Poor craftsmanship causes even the popular non-disposable products to quickly become trash.

We live in a society where time is the most valuable currency, and if you can create a product that saves somebody a significant amount of time – you’re golden. But, due to the lack of down time in most of our days – we also don’t do tons of research on the reliability of every day products.

As an entrepreneur, it frustrates me to know that so many of our customers seem to be settling for crap. True quality will probably cost a bit more, and I aim to create true quality.

But there does seem to be a growing trend of packaged food with health benefits and not so expensive mini electronics (like palm pilots, cell phones, etc) that save time without breaking the bank. However, there’s so much room for improvement—especially on the quality of products offered.

How is your start-up going to fill the modern consumer’s need for convenience, and still offer top notch affordable services?

Take a look at who’s doing it right. What are your favorite products and how does that company market them?

Tomorrow, I’ll highlight a few successful companies that do an excellent job of catering to our busy lifestyles. From that you should be able to create a personalized gauge to determine how your company measures up.

To be continued…
