Don’t be Scared, It May Kill Ya

How fun could life really be if you were scared to do all the things you wanted? Do you know why I really, really love the certain type of entrepreneurs who do more “doing” than talking and thinking? I love them because they are able to punch fear in the face and move forward with their dreams.

This is war, and the contenders are “fear” and “taking action.” As a young entrepreneur, you have to fight fear every time it comes around the corner to pick on you. Fear is the big bully in school who picked on you every day after lunch.

In order to prevent that bully from picking on you, there is only one thing that you can do: stand up to that bully! Let him know who’s boss. Fight back. Because the longer you wait to stand up for yourself, the worse and worse the problem will become.

That’s exactly how it works with entrepreneurship. You can’t let fear stand in your way to success. You can’t become that timid person who wishes and prays for things to happen with your who isn’t willing to take any action and make moves with your business.

Besides, studies have shown that the timid die young. In a recent study conducted on timid rats, it was shown that these scared rats were 60% likely to die sooner than the braver rats. Check it out:

“Timid rats were 60 percent more likely to die at any given time then were their outgoing brothers. The causes of death were similar for both groups. One hypothesis as to why the neophobic rats died earlier is that the stress hormones negatively affected their immune system, Cavigelli says. Neophobes died, on average, three months before their rat brothers, a significant gap, considering that most rats lived only two years.

Shyness—the human equivalent of neophobia—can be detected in infants as young as 14 months. Shy people also produce more stress hormones than “average,” or thrill-seeking, humans. But introverts don’t necessarily stay shy for life, as rats apparently do. Jerome Kagan, a professor of psychology at Harvard University, has found that while 15 out of every 100 children will be born with a shy temperament, only three will appear shy as adults.”

Okay…okay… so some of us were born shy. So what. Just because you have a natural inclination to be shy, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take risks with your life. Many entrepreneurs would consider themselves shy, but that’s never stopped them.

Think of it this way, if the studies are right, by being shy, timid, and scared your whole life you’re only going to shorten your time here on Earth. So take risks, become fearless, and push forward with your company. Do that, and you’ll live longer!
