Creating Winning Headlines
Whether you are writing a book, article, menu, service brochure or product list, creating a winning headline will take your customers from curious to purchase.
Last night the subject of winning headlines came up over dinner with some friends. Currently I am writing a book, commissioned by a publishing company entitled, ‘Sunshine on Sugar Hill’. It’s a travel book about my (Sunshine) experiences living in Harlem (Sugar Hill).
Another friend commented on the title and said their friend, also a writer, needed that sort of guidance. When she explained the friend’s project and the sub heading it occurred to me that indeed he did.
What he had overlooked entirely is the market his book was intended for. Any successful enterprise has to think market first. What is going to make someone take a closer look?
Before you think of a product or service name think about what your market desires most.
The easiest way to name a product launch, function or even website is to sit down alone or preferably with two other people and brainstorm; write down everything associated with that function (and everything you want associated) in a two minute time span.
A mish mash of words will ensue. All that is left to do is pick a few that form a catchy, informative phrase.
Don’t waste your chance to make an impression. Get your customers interested with winning headlines from the get go.
