Avoiding the Marketing Treadmill

Marketing without a plan is like running on a treadmill. Sure you look good while doing it but at the end of the day all you’ve done is worked up a sweat. You haven’t actually gone anywhere.

Consider this, magazine editorial calendars can run three to six months in advance. If you want your event, profile, product launch in them, you are going to have to plan. And plan well.

Sometimes making a plan such as this can seem a little overwhelming. The easiest way to overcome that, is to break it down. Look at your plan in three month blocks.

www.calendarsthatwork.com has a variety of calendar templates you can download. These are great for planning. It’s very hard to see the overall picture if you don’t have it all right in front of you.

Mark out the dates of the product/service launch and work backwards. Put in each square the action that needs to take place eg. magazine submissions, newspaper submissions, cyber submissions, launch date ect.

Once your major submissions have been added. Break it down further. Go week by week, with detailed descriptions eg. Magazine Submissions

Action: Contact Help Now Magazine, Hello, Vibe and Today!

Set it out visually in a way that is appealing to you.

Keep breaking it down until you have a day by day to-do list that will make your goals achievable.

There is a great saying that

“dreams are just goals without deadlines”

Avoid the marketing treadmill and plan your way to success.
